These terms describe Nordlys (Aurora Signal Norway), its forecasts, subscriptions and website. Nordlys is an independent guide for exploring northern-lights viewing conditions in Norway.
Guidance and limitations
The 0–100 conditions index is guidance, not a measured probability or a promise that aurora will be visible. It combines available activity, weather and darkness data for your chosen place and time. Terrain, light pollution and aurora low on the horizon are not fully modelled. Cloud, fog and precipitation data may be incomplete, and forecasts can change.
Short-range forecasts are estimates. The 27-day outlook is broader and less precise; historical geomagnetic patterns describe past activity rather than predicting a particular future night. Map comparisons sample selected places and do not establish the best possible spot everywhere in Norway.
Travel and safety
Nordlys is not a navigation, emergency, avalanche or travel-safety service. Check official weather warnings, road conditions, access restrictions and local advice before travelling. Distances may be straight-line distances rather than road distances. You are responsible for choosing a safe place, suitable clothing and equipment, and lawful access. Do not use the app in a distracting way while driving.
Alerts and data freshness
Alerts are local notifications based on the latest forecast saved on your iPhone. They depend on notification permission, device settings and iOS background-refresh availability. Opening the app regularly helps keep forecasts and planned alerts fresh. Delivery, timing and up-to-date conditions cannot be guaranteed. An alert is not an instruction or promise to go outside.
Nordlys Premium
A subscription is required after onboarding. Monthly and yearly auto-renewable plans may be offered. Prices, billing periods, eligibility and any introductory offer are shown by the App Store before purchase. Apple charges your Apple Account and manages renewal according to the terms shown at purchase.
You can manage or cancel your subscription in your Apple Account’s subscription settings. Access continues until the verified entitlement expires unless revoked. Deleting Nordlys does not cancel a subscription. Apple explains how to cancel a subscription.
Purchases, restoration and licence
Use Restore Purchases with the Apple Account that holds your subscription. Apple handles billing and refund requests under its applicable processes. The app’s licence is governed by Apple’s Standard End User Licence Agreement. These product terms do not replace that licence or limit mandatory consumer rights.
Sources and intellectual property
Nordlys combines weather, space-weather, historical and place-name data from external sources, including MET Norway, NOAA SWPC, GFZ Potsdam and Kartverket. Source credits, licences and transformation notices are available in the app’s Sources and licences section. References do not imply endorsement. App design, software, branding and original artwork belong to their respective rights holders; source data retains its separate rights and licences.
Use and availability
Use Nordlys lawfully on a compatible device. Do not bypass subscription controls, disrupt services or infringe others’ rights. Internet access is needed to refresh forecasts and use online services. External data, maps, notifications and App Store services may be unavailable or change. Nordlys is developed with care, but uninterrupted or error-free operation cannot be guaranteed. Material changes affecting paid access will be handled under applicable mandatory law.
Responsibility and consumer rights
Within the limits permitted by Norwegian law, Nordlys is not liable for indirect loss caused by reliance on forecasts or use outside its intended planning purpose. Nothing in these terms excludes liability or rights that cannot legally be excluded. These product terms are governed by Norwegian law, subject to your mandatory consumer protections.
